Huskies Down Regis University; Alexander Scores 100th Goal

BLOOMSBURG--Sam Alexander (Willow Grove/Upper Moreland) scored five goals and Bloomsburg University scored nine unanswered goals to start the second half on its way to a 22-10 win over Regis University (CO) in women's lacrosse action on Saturday.

The Huskies and Rangers traded leads in the early going before the Huskies scored three consecutive goals to on top 5-3. After Regis tied the score with back-to-back goals, Bloomsburg's Samantha King (Elkton, MD/Northeast)scored back-to-back goals to give the Huskies a 7-5 advantage. After a Regis goal made it 7-6, Kelsey Quigley (Lansdale/Methacton) scored consecutive goals to put the Huskies on top 9-6. After another goal from the Rangers, Alexander scored her second goal of the period to make it a 10-7 game.

With the Huskies leading 10-8 at halftime, Bloomsburg came out and scored the first nine goals of the second half to take control of the game. Allie Kakareka (Royersford/Spring-Ford) scored two of the goals for the Huskies as they took a 19-8 lead. Regis finally broke through with two goals with less than five minutes to play to cut the deficit to 19-10. Alexander scored two of the final three goals of the game, including her 100th career goal, that coming with 12 seconds to play in the game.

Along with Alexander's five goals, King, Kakareka and Quigley all scored four times each for the Huskies, now 11-4. Regis, 6-4, got three goals from Kate Liddle.

Bloomsburg will host Rollins College of Florida on Sunday at noon.
